Obama officials went on the offensive on the talk show circuit last Sunday, reminding America and the corporate media that Fox News is not a legitimate news organization.

Staying true to their entertainment format, on Monday Fox News responded by putting up a poll on their website and what do you know...all of the choices are incorrect and none of them allow for the possibility that Obama is right.

What a knee-slapper! Feel free to re-write your own reality-based poll for them in the comments.

Congrats to Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert

...for winning an Emmy each last night. Stewart took home the statue for Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Series, and Colbert for Outstanding Writing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Program. Expect a Stephen Colbert-Don Rickles feud to erupt any day now, after Rickles beat Colbert out for the Outstanding Individual Performance In A Variety Or Music Program award. He just can't seem to win that award; Manilow beat him out in 2006 and Tony Bennett did the same in 2007.

Congrats also to Jeremy Piven of Entourage (Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series) and Tina Fey of 30 Rock (Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series) for their well-deserved wins.

And while we're at it, congratulations to the U.S. golf team for reclaiming the Ryder Cup.

'The Closer' Rocks

I had a chance to power cycle through the first season of the TNT's "The Closer" over the last few days and I really enjoyed it. It's not over the top fun like The Shield, but filled with intricate plots and a sizzling cast led by the great Kyra Sedgwick, who has down the Alex Baldwin ABC's of interrogation. Nobody gets confessions like she does. It's a series that might not make it on network TV, but since it's on cable---there's no ratings pressure to make it anything other then what it is: an excellent police drama that touches on all of LA's cultural intricacies intertwined with current events. The new season starts July 14th, so If you have a little time ---check it out.

The final season of "The Wire" begins...

Arguably the best show on teevee, The Wire opened Sunday night with its fifth and final season. This series is as close an experience to reading a book as there ever has been on television. In this season--- print media (The Baltimore Sun) is included into the dynamic of the series. I'm so used to power cycling through a whole season in like two days that it'll be difficult to have to watch it week to week, but that's the breaks.

Season 5 is the culmination of brilliant, nuanced storytelling, exceptional acting and the fearlessness of Simon and his writers from the get-go in telling novelistic stories on television without pandering.... As for this grand finale, "The Wire" doesn't disappoint (has it ever?)

Christy has a really nice post on it....

If you haven't watched The Wire, you really should. The scripts are genius, the acting is sublime, and the research on the various characters -- decent cops and broken ones, drug dealers and their long-suffering and/or grasping families, community leaders and sell-outs, flawed politicians and the people who bribe them -- has been so spot on, beyond anything you usually see in the sterilized, shorthanded, cardboard cut-out "cop and law" shows.

Open Thread

Hopefully there won't be a writer's strike on Monday.

I did see that one of my fav's---Joss Whedon along with Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy) have a new deal on a show called "Dollhouse," that looks very interesting.
