On February 12, Stephen cited the Pentagon Inspector General's report and erroneously claimed that Doug Feith was guilty of manipulating intelligence about Iraq. After NPR replayed a sound clip from the "The Report", Feith -- who Tommy Franks once called "the [expletive] stupidest guy on the face of the earth" -- complained to NPR and was issued a correction. Being the big man that he is, Stephen apologized last night...for the sloppy research of his interns.
"I'm sorry. Feith is right. I did say "manipulated" when I should have said quote "produced alternative intelligence assessments" in a manner that was quote "inappropriate." HUGE DIFFERENCE!"
