Tim Buckley showed up in NY when I was in college. He wasn't famous. He was with Jackson Browne, who also wasn't famous. We met at a Velvet Underground show at the Exploding Plastic Inevitable. They came back and spent a few weeks at my college after the show. Jackson wound up as lead singer, for a few days at least, of the Soft White Underbelly. I hired Tim to open a show for the Doors, who weren't famous either, although they were about to be. This is one of Tim's songs, "Song to the Siren," covered by This Mortal Coil:
