The clock is ticking away on the deadline to fund the Department of Homeland Security. You might think Republicans would make this a priority, but they're too busy learning that governing is hard.
On Tuesday, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell threw his hands up in the air and said it's up to the House of Representatives to fix things. Buck pass Number One.
On Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner demurred, claiming the House had done its job, and it was really up to Senate Democrats to "get off their ass and do something other than say no." Buck pass Number Two.
Hey, Speaker Boehner. Senate Democrats had good teachers in the Department of No, and if anyone thinks they're going to comply with extremists' desire to end the President's executive orders on immigration through their spending powers, guess again.
Maybe it's time for the nativist extremists to reconsider their position or else suffer the consequences for yet another shutdown of at least part of our government. They'd be shirking their constitutional duty, but when has that ever stopped them?
Meanwhile, there are cracks in the caucus. Senator Mark Kirk, who is facing re-election in 2016, is calling for them to bring a clean funding bill to the floor.
Will the Republican-led House "get off their ass" and do their job? Stay tuned.
