Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Sunday predicted that his insult of Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) war record would help the "plight of the veterans" in the same way that he brought attention to the immigration issue by accusing Mexicans of being rapists.

During an interview on Fox & Friends, Trump argued that fellow GOP candidates were criticizing him for questioning McCain's war hero status because he was currently the top choice among Republican voters.

"I'm leading in all the polls so we'll see what happens," Trump promised. "And look, I brought illegal immigration to the forefront. I believe now I'm bringing the veterans -- the plight of the veterans -- to the forefront, which is great."

"If that comes out of that, just like what happens two weeks ago [with the rape remarks], if that happens, I'll be very proud," he billionaire continued. "Because the veterans are treated very, very badly. And John McCain -- like all politicians -- he's all talk and he's no action."
