Caleb Keeter, guitarist for Josh Abbott band and performer at the Route 91 Harvest Festival turned his back on his previous support for unfettered gun ownership.

Caleb Keeter, guitarist for the Texas-based Josh Abbott band, posted a statement earlier today renouncing his unfettered support for gun rights.

"I've been a proponent of the 2nd amendment my entire life," he wrote. "Until the events of last night. I cannot express how wrong I was."

Keeter noted that there were crew members on the bus with concealed carry licenses and legal firearms on the bus, but they "were useless," because if they had used them, police might have thought they were part of the massacre and have shot them.

"Enough is enough," he continued. "Writing my parents and the love of my life a goodbye last night and a living will because I felt like I wasn't going to live through the night was enough for me to realize that this is completely and totally out of hand."

"These rounds were powerful enough that my crew guys just standing an a close proximity of a victim shot by this fucking coward received shrapnel wounds," he said.

"We need gun control RIGHT NOW."

Keeter went on to express regrets that it had taken him so long, and that the event had to hit so close to home for to realize he was wrong.

He also had a promise for his fans:

I hope others step up and join him in this. He has received a lot of criticism for admitting this only after such a horrible and close event. I think rather than scolding him, we should invite more to join him, letting their past stay in the past and welcoming them to help us secure a safer future.
