It's always a pretty close race year after year, but we have a late entry in "Dumbest Congressman" contest that Louis Gohmert usually dominates.
Our contestant? South Carolina Republican (of course!) Ralph Norman. Norman was elected to the House in 2016 and recently won re-election for his district. He's clearly groked that the way to incite the base is to fear-monger against brown people and demonize Democrats.
What he hasn't figured out is how government works, unfortunately.
Norman appeared on Fox News on Saturday, to support Donald Trump's shutdown/tantrum by letting the Fox News audience what his Democratic colleagues are trying to do by not giving in to Trump's demands for a border wall/beautiful slats/fence/whatever it is today.
"It’s about power and votes. They want illegals to vote, particularly in the 2020 census that’s coming up. We’re just simply not going to allow that."
Anchor Leland Vitter apparently didn't have the smarts or wherewithal to inform Norman that we don't vote in the census and never have. Or maybe it's just against Fox's editorial policy to make sure factually correct information gets out to their viewers.
Is it really that much to expect that our elected representatives at least have a basic knowledge of our government and how it works?
