Fortunately, nobody has been hurt in a spree of terrifying shootings at Democratic homes and offices in Albuquerque. Three of the shootings happened in early December, two this week.
The shootings were not just vandalism. Bullets were shot into homes and could have killed multiple people. Three of the twelve rounds fired into the home of state Sen. Linda Lopez entered her 10-year-old daughter’s room, three entered Lopez’s room, KOAT reported. Bernalillo County Commissioner Adriann Barboa reported that five shots went through her front door and window and went “all the way through my house, through my living room, out my back window.” Fortunately, she was not home.
"More than a dozen gunshot impacts were identified on walls and the house" of then-Bernalillo County Commissioner Debbie O’Malley, Albuquerque police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos told NPR.
On top of that, shots were fired at the law offices of state Sen. Antonio “Moe” Maestas and the vacant campaign office of New Mexico’s newly-elected attorney general, Raúl Torrez.
Investigators have not definitively tied the attacks to politics or ideology but Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller said he is “worried and concerned” that is the case. But he also warned against drawing conclusions while the investigation continues, saying, “we don’t know that for a fact.”
Officials are asking for help from the public, particularly information about people or vehicles near the attacks or threatening social media posts. If you know anything that might be of use to the investigation, call Albuquerque Crime Stoppers at (505) 843-STOP.
