Republicans have been trying to roll back child labor laws, so this news should make them happy. The US Department of Labor said Tuesday that two 10-year-old children were found working at a Louisville, Kentucky McDonald's restaurant — sometimes until 2:00 a.m. It gets worse.
Via CNN:
The revelation was part of an investigation into the child labor law violations in the Southeast. The agency also found three franchisees that own more than 60 McDonald's locations in Kentucky, Indiana, Maryland and Ohio, "employed 305 children to work more than the legally permitted hours and perform tasks prohibited by law for young workers," the Labor Department said in a statement.
"Bauer Food LLC, a Louisville-based operator of 10 McDonald's locations, employed 24 minors under age 16 to work more than legally permitted hours," the statement added. "These children sometimes worked more hours a day or week than the law permits, whether or not school is in session. Investigators also determined two 10-year-old children were employed – but not paid – and sometimes worked as late as 2 a.m.
That's just straight-up evil. Speaking of evil, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a law recently to make it easier to employ children. I'm sure that will work well.
