Did legal hack Jonathan Turley actually listen to Donald Trump’s infamous phone call or does his knee just jerk toward defending him no matter what?
August 26, 2023

As we’ve previously explained, Turley is not paid by Fox News to provide real legal analysis, he’s paid to put a serious-sounding legal rationale for the network's propaganda. Why on earth George Washington University pays him to be part of their legal faculty remains a mystery.

In any event, Turley put forth another round of serious-sounding MAGA baloney on Fox's Hannity show in order to defend Trump’s demand that Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger “find” enough votes for Trump to win the state.

“It makes perfect sense when you’re challenging the election to say, you know, I only need around 11,000 votes,” Turley opined in his oh-so-serious voice. “So, if you do a statewide review, that’s not a lot in a state like Georgia. That’s not criminal, that’s making a case for a recount.”

Um, no. As Philip Bump pointed out, 11,000 votes is a very large number of votes to “ask” for from a recount. Even worse, Trump never asked for a recount in the hour-long call. Furthermore, no one but a Trump shill could miss the obviously threatening language from Trump on that call. For example: “I mean, all of this stuff is very dangerous stuff. When you talk about no criminality, I think it’s very dangerous for you to say that. … You treated the population of Georgia so badly. You, between you and your governor … I can’t imagine he’s ever getting elected again I’ll tell you that much right now.”

Yet, Turley also whined that the way prosecutor Fani Willis “portrayed that phone call to Raffensperger, I think is really evidence of the bias and unfairness of aspects of this indictment.” Project much, Professor Turley?

If you need more proof of Turley’s hackery, you need look no further than his January 3, 2021 tweet. Then, when he wasn’t on camera for Fox News, Turley described the call as “breathtaking” and “an opportunistic move” that “would not work to change the outcome.”

A timeline to counter Turley's nonsense.
