Last week, the ten Wisconsin fake electors came clean and confessed that they were part of the scheme to overturn the 2020 election. However, that was in response to a civil lawsuit and it appears increasingly likely that they might be facing criminal charges at some point.

In an effort to get ahead of that and to do some damage control, one of the fake electors, Andrew Hitt, agreed to be interviewed by Matt Smith on the Wisconsin-based show UpFront. Unsurprisingly, the lies started to fly as soon as Hitt opened up his mouth.

Andrew Hitt: The things we agreed to, we just viewed as true. Joe Biden won this election. It's pretty clear now that we didn't know that there was this ulterior motive, this different plan. And it's clear now too that those documents were used on January 6th, to the least, at the very least, to help create the chaos of that day.

Matt Smith: Let's talk about that day itself. December 14th, it was three years ago this past week. In that moment, when you walked into that room, what did you and the other electors think you were doing?

AH: Well, you know, we had been very careful to talk to our lawyers here in Wisconsin. Long time Republican Party of Wisconsin lawyers. We didn't talk to the Trump campaign lawyers. We didn't talk to Rudy Giuliani. We didn't talk to lawyers we didn't know or didn't trust. We talked to our RPW long time outside counsel. He independently looked at this issue and said you guys have to meet. If the Trump campaign wins a lawsuit in Wisconsin and you don't meet, we will have completely forfeited the president winning Wisconsin. So, we viewed what we were doing as simply a contingency plan. The documents we signed would have no meaning unless a court gave them meaning.

MS: Looking back at it now, what do you believe you were walking into that room to do that day?

AH: You know, what we believe and what we thought we were doing was clearly just to be a contingency plan. Now we know that other people had other ideas of what they weree going to do with our documents. And that's clear from the January 6th investigation and it's clear from the indictment.

MS: There are critics of yours that want to see you in jail.

AH: Absolutely. And, you know, that's not something you ever want to hear as a person, right? But if you look at what our text messages say, what our emails say, what conversations we were having, that we never thought would see the light of day, it becomes very clear. And everyone who looks at us comes to the same conclusion, whether it's the January 6th committee, the special counsel's office, or even Law Forward. They certainly wouldn't have settled with us if they felt that we were some part of a vast conspiracy.

It should be noted that at the time when the fake electors signed their documents, Hitt was the Chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin (RPW). He is also a lawyer who specialized in election laws. As such, when Hitt and the others signed those documents, he knew damn well that the recount was over weeks before and that all of the legal challenges that Trump and his supporters had filed were soundly defeated.

It should also be noted that both Jim Troupis and Kenneth Chesebro, the Trump lawyers who organized and spearheaded this scheme, were long time Wisconsin lawyers. In fact, Troupis had been rewarded by then Governor Scott Walker with a seat on a judge's bench for all the work he had done for the RPW and for Walker personally. For Hitt to say that they didn't talk to Trump's lawyers or to lawyers they didn't know or trust is more than a tad bit disingenous.at best.

Don't believe me? Just ask the Andrew Hitt that was deposed, under oath, for the January 6th committee. That Hitt contradicts almost everything Hitt said in the above interview.
