According to some of Donald Trump's closest aides, the President's newfound and deep-seated obsession with his bizarre pet projects is indicative of Trump's complete break with reality, as he focuses all of his attention and energy on useless, self-serving pet projects in an effort to ignore and deny his complete and utter disaster of a second presidential term.
In a Quinnipiac survey released last week, Donald Trump's approval ratings clocked in at a humiliating 32 percent -- the lowest figure he's seen in his entire political career, sinking further than even his numbers directly following the infamous January 6th Capitol insurrection. For 68 percent of American voters, Trump simply is not paying enough attention to any of the issues that are bearing down on their daily lives.
Speaking with Axios, one Trump insider said that the President has fully retreated into "the hobbies that distract from his terrible polling numbers, about which he is in denial."
Instead, Trump is laser-focused on pet projects like the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, the White House grounds, bizarre statues of himself, and his infamous, tacky, multi-million dollar ballroom. According to New York Times' Maggie Haberman, "It's a legacy thing."
Trump's entire mental bandwidth is now consumed with his ongoing war with Iran, his vicious tariffs, and his obsession with building monuments to himself to leave his "mark" on the world -- all of which are things that the American public truly couldn't care less about, as they drown under the effects of the crippling economy Trump has created.
Not only has Trump destroyed his own image and poll ratings among the American people, but he's also managed to dismantle the public image of his own party effectively. The GOP has long relied on the public perception that Republicans are inherently more fiscally responsible, serving as a steadier, firmer hand within the economy than their counterparts on the Left. Trump has officially shattered that image, as recent polling numbers from Reuters found that American voters no longer feel more confident in the GOP's fiscal responsibility, wiping out the lead that Republicans had maintained on this matter for the last nine years, in one fell swoop.
Donors and party leaders alike are growing increasingly weary as Trump sits on roughly $400 million in his Super PAC war chest that he refuses to inject into races that still have swing potential. Instead, all of his capital is being mainlined into his SAVE America Act bill that will make voting nigh impossible for millions of Americans, even though countless Republicans have told him over and over and over again that the bill does not stand a chance of ever passing. Trump merely pins the blame on Senate Majority Leader John Thune, openly and repeatedly threatening to oust him, and then keeps on trucking right along.
Aides revealed that when Trump receives guests at the White House, he shirks policy talks and instead shows them his drawings of his ballroom project, his models of his planned Triumphal Arch, his designs for Dulles International Airport, his fancy new helipad, or his controversial new Air Force One.
As the President quite literally behaves like a clueless toddler, running around the White House showing off and playing with his toys, senior congressional Republicans are warning that they are soon to lose their slim majority in both the House and the Senate.
Even Trump knows that a vicious bloodbath is on the horizon, admitting in an interview this week that his party is facing a very likely wipeout, come November. Yet, he really just doesn't seem to care much at all, telling Punchbowl News with a shrug, "They're angry at Republicans. They're not angry at me."
The man's only concern now is ensuring he leaves a Trump-sized crater on this earth that no one can ignore or forget. You, as an American citizen, are mere collateral damage for that goal.
