On CBS News, Louisiana Senator John Kennedy denounced the Trump administration for producing a political ad supporting Trump and the Republican party paid for by taxpayers before the 2026 midterms.

Face The Nation host Margaret Brennan brought up the illegal ad that is running on television.

"It prominently features President Trump, and there's a voice praising him as, quote, the toughest, most resilient person I ever met. And at the end, it says, paid for by the U.S. government, "Brennan stated. "Is that the best use of taxpayer money?"

Kennedy changed topics for a bit until Brennan brought him back to Trump.

BRENNAN: This looks like a commercial about President Trump.

KENNEDY: I was just going to say, Margaret, I don't think any public official, including President Trump or Kristi Noem or John Kennedy, should spend public money on private ads for themselves.

Now, the White House sees it differently, but I think there ought to be a rule that you can't—well, there probably is a rule— you can't spend public money to promote yourself.

There are laws against this blatant abuse.

There is the Hatch Act, along with Government appropriations law, campaign-finance law, and Government employees/resources.

But the ads are running, because Trump doesn't care about those stupid laws standing in his way.

Kennedy than sh*t on Trump's obsession with renaming every important structure he can find.

KENNEDY: I may end up with a sombrero on my head, but I also think that we ought to have a rule that no politician can have a building named after him while he's alive.

I think that would settle a lot of this controversy.

We have that rule in Louisiana.

It works pretty well.

BRENNAN: Well, we'll watch, Senator, if you introduce that.

I think a sombrero would look just fine on his head, but his racism would still spill out.

Kennedy will never introduce a law like that until Trump leaves office.
