(Damon Albarn of Gorillaz - Friday Night Glasto)

It's festival season and in keeping with the mission of Backstage Weekend we're presenting highlights from Friday nights Glastonbury Festival, featuring live sets from Gorillaz, Broken Bells, Groove Armada, Flaming Lips and The XX. Presented by BBC6 Music (a site you need to bookmark, and not just for this weekend but forever), it's a non-stop feast of great music presented live. Because the festival is so huge and there's so much going on so many stages, the BBC folks have been presenting extended samples from each of the concert areas and will be doing so the rest of the weekend. It's a not-miss situation.

I would urge you to go over there and check it out. The list of bands is impressive and there are rebroadcasts available from the BBC iPlayer as well as reports, interviews and excerpts from previous festivals going back 40 years so you won't miss anything owing to the time difference. It's a feast and this is only a small part.

Because this was a two hour wrapup of the days concerts, I am presenting it two parts. Part 1 (above) features Gorillaz, Broken Bells and Groove Armada. Part 2 (below) features the rest of Gorillaz, Flaming Lips and The XX.

They bounce around from stage to stage and it makes for great listening.

So in lieu of a plane ticket, sleeping bag and raincoat, here is Friday's sampling of Glasto. Enjoy.
