Glenn Beck: Who, me? Root for states to secede?
Glenn Beck wants everyone to rest assured he's not a complete nutcase. He's not a fan of state secession, after all!
Beck: Did you catch the New York Times this weekend? [Giggles weirdly.] They published the third -- count it, three -- the third op-ed in the New York Times blaming Bill O'Reilly and me, or Fox News in general, of spreading hate and inspiring people like the killer of Dr. Killer, uh, Tiller, in Kansas. Also, we were the inspiration apparently for the guy at the Holocaust Museum last week.
You know, there are groups out there that preach hate and violence and racial violence. There are groups out there so fed up they want to secede from the union. But we ain't one of them!
Hmmmm. An interesting denial. There's only one problem with it: Beck was downright enthusiastic about Texas secession two months ago when he interviewed Chuck Norris:
GLENN: Chuck, you live in Texas.
NORRIS: Yes, I do.
GLENN: Somebody asked me this morning, they said, you really believe that there's going to be trouble in the future. And I said, if this country starts to spiral out of control and, you know, and Mexico melts down or whatever, if it really starts to spiral out of control, before America allows a country to become a totalitarian country, which it would have under I think the Republicans as well in this situation; they were taking us to the same place, just slower.
NORRIS: It was slower, yeah.
GLENN: Americans will, they just, they won't stand for it. There will be parts of the country that will rise up. And they said, where's that going to come from? And I said Texas, it's going to come from Texas. Do you agree with that, Chuck, or not?
NORRIS: Oh, yeah. You know, Texas is a republic, you know. We could actually --
GLENN: It was a country before it was a state.
NORRIS: Yeah, we could break off from the union if we wanted to.
GLENN: You do, you call me.
NORRIS: Oh, yeah.
If the people who call for state secession are complete nutbags, then why does Beck keep featuring on his show his good buddy Chuck Norris? The guy who wrote this:
On Glenn Beck's radio show last week, I quipped in response to our wayward federal government, "I may run for president of Texas."
That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.
From the East Coast to the "Left Coast," America seems to be moving further and further from its founders' vision and government. ...
... I'm not saying that other states won't muster the gumption to stand and secede, but Texas has the history to prove it.
Of course, Beck is busy making this claim and running far far away from the right-wing nutcases whose theories he spent much of his first couple of months at Fox promoting.
Because heaven forfend that anyone should look at Beck's proclamation after the Holocaust Museum shooting that "the pot in America is boiling" and start figuring out who turned up the temperature.
Dr. Slammy at Scholars and Rogues has a great post on the phoninness of the "lone wolf"/"isolated incidents" meme that seems to be all the rage on the right these days.

Rinse, repeat.
There in a nutshell is basically the MO of the modern conservative movement in the US of A. I gotta give them credit though: They really have gotten quite the mileage from such a brain death philosophy...
These folks seem to be very comfortable in nutshells, seems to fit like a glove. Why is that?
Another perfect example of what I have been saying for a while now!
republicanism is a mental illness!
does beck sound sane?
or billo, or limpballs?
Can you think of any republican that looks and sounds sane?
Can someone name just one?
Pharmacutical companies?
I understand that companies want to advertise with a show that draws the type of customers they want to sell to, but really.....
i really am sorry li'l chucky norris but texas wasn't the only state to have been a republic, it's not even the first one either. my home state of vermont takes that bill as the vermont republic from 1777 - 1791.
our flag even had more stars than yours!
take that from a green mountain gal, you squirrly secessionist.
Niiiiiicccce!!!
As you may also know, secession wasn't even a southern idea first - the entire NE contemplated seceding in the early 1800s, with Aaron Burr as one of its early proponents. (For more info on early secession talk, see "Hartford Convention.")
it figures, i lived there for years. lots of colonial "rebels" were from there. thanks.
So he would have to apply for a visa to enter Texas ;-)
I always got the impression that Bruce Lee was not acting, and the ass kicking Norris got in "Return of the Dragon" was real. He seems to have been a bit "off" since then...
...well then if'n he wants to go and be president of texas and all, i can't see how he can do it, having that cloud of foreign oklahoma birth hanging over his head.
i'm afraid chuck'll have to cough up a birth certificate that says, "texan" on it or he's outta luck.
ironic, no?
that FOX "News" brass has been a little rattled over the right-wing violence that has been happening recently?
Shepard Smith has suddenly taken an independent position on issues like torture and right-wing terrorism, while Beck goes on his show and starts backing away from his secession talk.
Maybe Ailes and Murdoch are starting to get a little nervous?
...if they haven't yanked hannity or billo yet.
That ruled the other day that the bush/chenny admin could be sued for torturing people has got them very worried.
I love it I absolutely love it!
As your resident Texan......Egad
Please don't start on Texas as a whole. Some of us are sane.
Kee-RIST, not that old "Texas has the right to secede" crap again.
Supposedly it can, BUT ONLY IF IT AGREES TO SEPARATE INTO 5 STATES. I know, sounds weird, but that's how I understand it. But insofar as Texas just flat out seceding and becoming its own country as is, nope, wrong.
But....didn't we fight a war over that whole secession thing? And wasn't Texas a state then? I gues that when a state talks of secession today, the Civil War (the War of Southern Treason) actually wasn't about states' rights at all!
For the 5 years I lived in TX, I got so sick of all the great Texas myths that I would debunk them whenever I heard some one spout them.
Don't get me started on Texas flag myths............
Native, lived here most of my life....finally got out and wound up in California for six years. Unfortunately the economy collapsed and I wound up back her. Any believe me it's not what it was. It used to be nice, not the best, but tolerable. Now it's mostly a shit-hole due to right-wing asshattedness. And I'm trapped here.
Texas leads the country in wind energy. Shit-hole? I take offense to that remark. I live here and I thrive here.
That being said, Chuck Norris and Glenda Beck can go fuck themselves.
Remember Ann Richards? We will get our state back......
Kinky is going to run as a Democrat. OH YEAH!
My favorite quote of Anne Richards':
"Honey, there's NOTHING fake about me........'cept my hair."
By "shit-hole", I refer to Houston.
to either Huston or Dallas.
Austin is cool though, too bad it is landlocked...
Has a very nice lake, complete with nudist area, nice homes, and boating.
Do the secessionists have to turn in their American flag shirts, hats, lapel pins, and truck-window decals as soon as they join the movement? Or do they keep displaying them until secession actually takes place? And at what point do we get to call them Hate-America-Firsters?
Next thing you are going to tell us how Texas was literally invaded by foreign settlers and forced to secede at gun point from Mexico... bah! ;-)
Accepted. I haven't been to Houston in years and years. I live in North West Texas.
;-)
I did, but this whole internet tube thingy confuses me.
That's really more like Oklahoma than Texas.
"the Civil War (the War of Northern Aggression)"
There, fixed it for you!
:P
have not been committed for psychiatric evaluation is beyond me. It doesn't seem to matter what they say anymore. If it's bad and they're called on it, even faced with irrefutable evidence, they deny it. Accept no responsibility for any action they perform with negative consequences. True sociopaths, and yet they walk free amongst us, without any supervision, medical or otherwise. Instead they are paraded on national television as "news" persons, rather than the street people freaks that they are. My apologies to street people, who do tend to have more sense.
I'm not sure exactly who is stopping this bonehead from just leaving the country. You want out Glen, then get out!
And please Glenda, don't let the door hit you in the ass.
I never really understood why the biggest secessionists in Texas are not from Texas. As a naturalized Texan citizen, I don't think Chuck Norris would be eligible for the presidency.
moving into texas, going all the way back to Davy Crockett and his band of merry men.
Norris is just continuing that illustrious tradition....
Good point. The same can be said of the U.S. of A.
I really don't see the insanity in secession. My idea in California is to push as a bluff to get the federal Government to recognize state laws and gtfo. I do have that old North East Colonial Rebel blood (little native American too) I do have the civil war blood pretty bad. I guess I'm just all messed up.
Texas secede for what? Because the liberal democrats are driving the country into a totalitarian state, faster than the Republicans. Now that is insane.
... you are right, you're messed up.
I know, every time BOR says far left , I think moderate conservatives.
Glenn Beck is America's number 1 weasel. Duck and cover is his speciality. Fucker stirs up a shit storm and then goes, "Who, me?"
The only one here constantly confusing Glen Back with a jar of Planters?
Mr. Peanut is a LEGUME
Glenn Beck
I have already complained to the FCC about your attempt to incite violence and you are still on the air.
Your position is a privilege not a right and when you advocate hatred towards fellow citizens you should be silenced.
BTW Beck and O'Reilly continue to use the unfortunate term "Pinhead", this refers to a real neurological disorder Microcephaly:

'Talk to the hand'
I actually don't feel that strongly about secession. If the majority of people in a state want to secede, have a plan, and go forward with it, I say it's their fundamental right -- the right to self-determination. Most of the time I wonder about the legitimacy of their complaints, but that isn't up to me to decide.
Hawai`i is the best example of a state that could, and maybe someday will, secede. The ruling sovereign government there was illegally overthrown by businessmen with the collusion of the U.S. Navy, an act that broke international law, and even the president at the time recognized that. Before anything could be done to return the Queen to the throne, a new president took power who was sympathetic to the "Manifest Destiny" idea and the white landowners in Honolulu, so it stuck. By the time the vote for statehood rolled around, the Hawaiian people were so outnumbered, and the "old ways" so long suppressed (religion, language and customs outlawed in some cases) that there was no way to rally against it. But the sovereignty movement there is picking up steam. Give it a decade or two, especially with the right political, economic, or cultural influences, and it might just happen.
As for Glenn Beck: he is disingenuous and vicious.
Was a farm girl from west texas and left there about 1938 , having went thru the dust bowl " anall" , all of her brothers and sisters died of cancer and suffered mental problems linked to spraying of the crops while people where working in them . My moms first child ( my older brother ) died inside her and she did not know ( 1945 tech was not that good ) she went spectic as she carrired ( sp ) my brother for over two months , she spent 3 months in the hospital .
I remember my mom taking me to a garden for any one of needs , it was for the people , and there where peas for the picking , and my mom would say bless your pea picking heart ( words to remember forever ) .
And all the times you made be pratice , and how I still think of you , even today having not plaed a guitar in 30 years , i could still play your fav ' wildwood flower ' .
every time you throw a little mud , you lose a little ground .
life is the same everywhere , for us common folk .
every time you throw a little mud , you lose a little ground .
... if you do secede please call me too so I can come down there and help build the fence around the USA so we can keep you the fuck out!
Fuck em.
And take all the Reslug morons like Beck with them.
and I hope you pay the price for that crime, you fuckin fascist son of bitch.
With all due respect to Jimmy Carter (and to myself, as I've lived in the South my whole life), most Southerners are Calvinist sociopaths, and the U.S. government would be better off letting these people go their own way. The Northeast, Pacific Coast, and Great Lakes states could remain as the U.S., while the big L from North Dakota to Texas to South Carolina would become Jesusland. Looking at the 2008 electoral map, it's obvious we're living in two geographically identifiable countries, so what purpose does it really serve to keep these disunited groups of people together?
Because their territory is every bit the rest of the country's as it it theirs. They want to leave, they don't want to be a part of the country, then they can do a thing called emigrate. As far as I'm concerned letting them secede is like having that spoiled 18 year old who says he moving out on his own, but asks to take the car with him.
They want to leave, they can leave, they're just not allowed to take the real estate with them.
I mean-he constantly uses phrases "pinhead" "liberal facism" etc, that others have coined. I don't think he would be as popular at all if he were still on CNN. He would not have all the other jerkoffs at Fox to prop his silly show up.
Of course he has supported succession-as noted here, he had Norris on several times, mentioned the cause, and even here in this segment, he says these people wanted to secede "because they were fed up." Now, does that sound like he is "innocent" of charging up "the troops."?
