Ever since Donald Trump failed to lead Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act, he's been aching for a government shutdown and showdown over his wall.

He should be careful what he wishes for.

Trump should know now that there will be no more Republican Senators elected, given that Alabama just elected a Democrat.

But he also has a problem, because after his horrible tax scam bill passed, there is a ton of unfinished business, including renewing CHIP, passing a clean DREAM Act, and funding the government for next year, all to-do items which were shoveled off to the side so Republicans could pass the tax heist. That's done now, and they're basking in the glow of robbing the government to pay off their billionaires.

Now it's time for the hard work.

First, we will not allow Donald Trump to get away with this:

That's right, he will not blame Democrats for that which he refuses to do. Here's what the man-baby in the White House needs to learn: Governing is hard. It's also his constitutional duty. He made a vow, and now he needs to keep it.

If the government shuts down, it's entirely on Donald Trump and the Republican Party he leads. When you hear cable yakkers blame Democrats, be ready and armed with this post and his very own words calling for a shutdown over his stupid wall.

But, the spinners say, if only the Democrats hadn't made demands that CHIP, the DREAM Act, and more be part of the discussion on the continuing resolution! Welcome to Governing 101, boys and girls, where you learn that the minority has a voice and the right to use it. It is perfectly appropriate for Congressional Democrats to expect, for example, that if the President of the United States intentionally shovels the DREAM Act onto their plate, they have a duty to act on it.

Do not allow him, his surrogates, or Republican spinners on cable to get away with deflection. We sure won't.

Trump currently has a unified government. If he cannot manage to lead Republicans to a compromise which includes a clean DREAM Act and CHIP renewal, then he and his party will simply have to pay the price for that. Parents of sick kids will not care whether Trump builds his wall. Young people who were brought here as children will not tolerate one more day being at risk of deportation because they acted in good faith and Trump did not.
