Before asking Georgia’s secretary of state to “find” him enough votes to overturn the 2020 election, Donald Trump pushed the state speaker to call a special session to overturn the results.

Georgia House Speaker David Ralston died in November but, lordy, there’s a tape. The Georgia special grand jury heard it during their investigation of Trump. NBC News spoke with Emily Kohrs, the jury foreperson, about the phone call they heard:

During the December [2020] call, Trump attempted to pressure the then-speaker into calling a special legislative session to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory in the battleground state, Kohrs said.

The call recording, which was first reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, lasted about 10 minutes, Kohrs said. She recalled that Trump asked Ralston who would stop him from holding a special session. According to Kohrs, Ralston responded, “A federal judge, that’s who.”

An anonymous juror told the AJC:

The speaker “basically cut the president off. He said, ‘I will do everything in my power that I think is appropriate.’ … He just basically took the wind out of the sails,” the juror said. “‘Well, thank you,’ you know, is all the president could say.”

Big Loser Trump tried again - and failed again - in the now-infamous call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Trump asked for the vote tally to be “recalculated” in order to “find” 11,780 votes. That effort failed, too.

Now, we wait to find out who the special grand jury recommended be indicted and how Fulton County DA Fani Willis follows up.
