Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani left open the possibility on Sunday that supporters of Donald Trump could "get violent" if he is removed from state ballots because of the 14th Amendment.

Giuliani made the remarks after a caller on his WABC radio show asked him if Trump supporters could turn violent over Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which bars anyone who participated in an insurrection from holding federal office.

"Yeah, among other things," Giuliani agreed. "It's a little bit like, you know, throwing something on the fire and seeing how bad will it make it."

"Will they get the Trump people to get violent?" he pondered. "Will Trump overreact? Will people, when you do enough of this, will people say, oh, maybe there's something to it?"

"I mean, it isn't working, thank goodness."

Giuliani insisted that the 14th Amendment did not apply to the presidency.

"And if a single person who isn't even elected can take somebody out of a presidential race, then we're a dictatorship," he argued. "Trump was president for four years. He did nothing anti-democratic. He didn't do the crap they're doing."

"He didn't put Hillary in jail or try to put Hillary [Clinton] in jail," the former mayor added. "He could have. Actually, he should have."

The Colorado Supreme Court and the Maine Secretary of State have declared Trump ineligible for the ballot.
