Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) made a fool of himself on CNN trying to defend his continued backing of Rep. Max Miller's campaign after multiple allegations of Miller's abuse against former girlfriends, his ex-wife and daughter. Lawler refused to return a $10,000 donation, while deploying an almost two-decade old scandal from Gov. Elliot Spitzer as his shield.
Senator Bernie Moreno has come out publicly and denounced Miller.
Calling the previous two years "pure hell" for his family, Moreno wrote in a social media post that Miller "is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter." If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives."
This vicious allegation was met with a placid Lawler, dismissing it as a family matter. When the CNN host refused to drop it, he got angry and began arguing with Dana Bash. Lawler thought lying about Elliot Spitzer's situation would be the gotcha moment that would win him the debate, He was wrong.
BASH: He denies it and his father and ex-father-in-law, who's a senator, very much says that he should not be in Congress.
LAWLER: I understand.
It's a tragic family situation that has spiraled into the public. But again, you have this situation where the allegations have not been verified. You yourself just acknowledge they have not been verified.
And yet my opponent took tens of thousands of dollars from the former governor of New York who resigned in disgrace because he sexually abused young women.
This is a bald-faced lie.
Gov. Spitzer was linked to a high priced call girl and an escort service, not trafficking underage girls. Anyone with a pulse remembers this story.
Perhaps Lyin' Lawler should look to the White House for the sex traffickers.
Miller's alleged physical abuse of several other high profile girlfriends, and breaking his 2 year-old daughter's collarbone while abusing his ex-wife is not in the same galaxy as what Spitzer did.
LAWLER: Are you okay with Cait Conley keeping that money?
BASH: I don't have an opinion. I don't have an opinion on either way. I'm just asking you a question.
LAWLER: You are asking me about an unverified allegation versus a verified allegation in which the former governor resigned in disgrace because he sexually abused young women. (Continues lying)
BASH: This has been hugely in the news.
This is your sitting colleague in Congress and you're talking about something that happened two decades ago.
Lawler then whined that giving the money back is a media-driven political game, when in reality if he had a shred of decency, he would drop his support of Rep. Miller and return the money.
BASH: It's only $10,000 and you can move on.
LAWLER: Because this is the typical Washington...This is the typical Washington media game where it's always an allegation comes up, you must return the money.
It's the typical game.
It's not a typical game. It's Lawler's way of supporting a scumbag.
Rep. Max Miller should resign and Rep. Lawler should support it, but he's a Trump supporter so sexual and physical abuse of women is par for the course.
