US President Donald Trump is giving Marie Antoinette one hell of a run for her money as he prepares to host Chinese President Xi Jinping for an extraordinarily lavish White House state dinner next week, while we lowly average Americans continue to be crushed under the exorbitant weight of his ongoing war of choice with Iran -- a move that, according to POLITICO, has left even his own allies with a bad taste in their mouths.
As fuel costs in America push to record-breaking heights as a direct result of Donald Trump's series of bad decisions, one Republican White House insider anonymously told POLITICO, "I don’t think people really want to see you toasting the Chinese premier. You’re hosting this glamorous state dinner at a time when people are like, ‘Are you focused on me?’”
It's been nearly seven months since Donald Trump first launched his war of choice with Iran that was only supposed to last "a few weeks." With the Strait of Hormuz still closed -- and Iranian leadership making it abundantly clear that it will remain that way until Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu have been removed from power -- and hostilities between the two countries only seeming to increase, global oil prices have soared to extortionate prices. Regular gasoline is currently sitting at a national average of $4.48 per gallon. At the same time, diesel prices have broken records, sitting at an all-time high of $6.53 per gallon, and other necessary goods, such as ground beef, have followed suit.
With midterm elections just around the corner now and polls predicting a brutal loss for the Grand Old Party, Republicans are warning that the lavish cost isn't the only display of cognitive dissonance from the president when it comes to his impending state dinner.
As Republicans desperately try to campaign on the concept of a referendum on communism, GOP strategist Barrett Marson argued that inviting the leader of the Communist Party of China -- the single largest communist party on the face of the earth -- to the American White House for an opulent dinner is a far cry from practicing what you preach.
"It's just another in a string of examples where Trump's message and Republicans' don't jibe," Marson told POLITICO.
In fact, the president's Monday meeting with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani similarly rubbed Mason the wrong way: "The in-your-face arguments from Republicans this election cycle is that Democrats want to bring socialism or communism to America. Trump warmly embracing two of the most outspoken leaders of those ideologies makes it that much harder for the message to resonate with voters."
It seems it's about time to start emblazoning those infamous red hats with "Let Them Eat Cake."
