The photo of a couple kissing during the Vancouver riots Wednesday night quickly went viral when it hit the Internet.

The Star has now identified the couple in the photo as Canadian Alexandra Thomas and her Australian boyfriend Scott Jones.

"When I first saw it, I thought, 'No way, that's not ... I can't believe that's us,'" Thomas told the paper. "Then I looked some more and realized, that is us. That's a very revealing picture of us."

Some have speculated that the photo was staged, but photographer Rich Lam told Esquire that it was completely spontaneous.

The Vancouver Sun has uncovered video which seems to back up Lam's story. Student photographer Emily Nicole was trapped on a roof when she caught the two on film.

A witness told The Guardian that Thomas may have been knocked down and hurt during the commotion.

"Classic!" Jones reportedly wrote on his Facebook page. "This was shortly after the riot police run over the top of us and naturally Alex needed some comforting."
