She Will Be Loved from Songs About Jane

After my parents split up, my mom went (quite naturally) through a period of time where she was very cynical about relationships and love. Even listening to music became a minefield, because she would look sad and shake her head at the lyrics and say, "That's not a healthy relationship...that's completely dysfunctional!"

At the time, in the throes of my own first love, I didn't get it. I chalked it up to bitterness and bit my tongue.

But now, decades and other loves later, I see what my mom meant. The love that lasts isn't the "Can't Live Without You" kind. All those plaintive wailings about being lost in love do give a completely wrong impression about healthy and loving relationships. As much as I love this Maroon5 CD, when I saw this video, I cringed, and hoped my kids wouldn't catch it.

So your challenge today is to pick two songs. One song should be a completely non-functional look at love and the other should be the way you think love really should be.
