As Gov. Chris Christie embarked on his apology tour Thursday in the wake of the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal that has rocked his administration, reaction to his marathon news conference earlier in the day was swift — and cynical.

"Nixon cut Haldeman and Ehrlichman loose, too. Nothing happens in control-freak Christie’s world he doesn’t allow," tweeted Roger Stone, a longtime Republican political operative known as a political hit man, referring to Nixon’s top advisers.
