Anthony Weiner Gets Hard Time For Sexting A Minor
Weiner gets sentenced to 21 months in prison.
Former New York Congressman, Anthony Weiner, was just sentenced to 21 months in prison for sexting a minor. This marks a stunning fall from grace for a rising star who seemed unable to keep himself out of harms way, starting back in 2011 when he was caught tweeting a picture of himself with....bulging underwear.
In 2013, Weiner was forced to admit that he was sexting with a woman named Sydney Leathers using the now infamous name "Carlos Danger." Leathers was an adult, so although creepy, it was not technically illegal.
That changed when Weiner began sexting a 15 year old North Carolina high schooler. In these exchanges he called himself "T-Dog" and instructed her to participate in lewd sexual conduct.
Prosecutors said: “With full knowledge that he was communicating with a real 15-year-old girl, the defendant asked her to engage in sexually explicit conduct via Skype and Snapchat, where her body was on display, and where she was asked to sexually perform for him.”
He pled guilty to the charges and prosecutors asked for 21 to 27 months in prison. His attorneys said he was "sick" and asked for probation and therapy.
His inability to keep out of trouble may also have been partly to blame for the reopening of the Hillary Clinton "emailgate" investigation by the FBI, which ended up being brought back from the dead just 11 days before the election after emails from his wife, Huma Abedin, were found on Weiner's laptop.
Shortly after the revelations of further sexting, Abedin filed for divorce and custody of their now 5 year old son. The divorce is still being finalized.
