In a press conference after Donald Trump’s arraignment Tuesday, Tacopina was asked about his client's now-infamous image of Trump looking like he was about to swing a baseball bat at the head of NYC District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
“I don’t know where you got that,” Tacopina snapped. “He wasn’t swinging a baseball bat at anyone’s head. That was a picture of him showing off an American-made bat. Someone else put a picture of the district attorney next to him and an article posted that.”
“If you want to distort the facts, go right ahead,” Tacopina said to the questioner.
Um, who’s really distorting the facts? We all “got that” from Trump's own post on his own Truth Social account:
But who you going to believe, Trump (who made the same ridiculous claim to Sean Hannity) and his attorney or your own lying eyes?
There’s no way former prosecutor Tacopina is stupid enough to believe Trump had no idea what he was posting. But even if he were, Tacopina has to know that that photo was just one of many instances of Trump’s deliberate incitements against Bragg.
So it’s no surprise that Tacopina wanted to quickly change the subject. Someone tried to follow up, asking about Trump using language that incites. Tacopina said, “Guys, here’s what we’re going to talk about today.”
I don’t know why any lawyer would want Trump as a client. Even if he pays you and listens to your advice (big if), every single lawyer he deals with ends up with problems: either sanctions, jail or in need of their own attorney. Tacopina seems like he’ll fit right in with the rest of them.
