Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) encouraged his colleagues to seriously crack down on Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-OH) partisanship while leading Judiciary Committee hearings.
At a hearing last week, Swalwell called out Jordan for refusing to comply with a legal subpoena.
"You had quite a moment this week at a hearing where Attorney General Merrick Garland was testifying," MSNBC host Jen Psaki told Swalwell in a Sunday interview. "So, Congressman, I mean, you kind of punched back verbally at the bullies there. Do you think that's something that Democrats should be doing more of in these hearings?"
Psaki wondered if Swalwell would encourage his colleagues to use the same tactics.
"We don't punch back hard enough," he replied. "We play on our side of the field rather than theirs. And then on the right-wing media ecosystem, it just reinforces those lies."
"And so I do believe in every hearing we should take what I call a 3D approach," he continued. "You know, first, immediately discredit them. And Jordan, it's easy to discredit him because he won't even honor his own subpoena. Two, you know, to debunk any of the claims that they're making that are false."
Thirdly, Swalwell said Democrats needed to deliver on their promises.
"So discredit, debunk, and always deliver," he concluded. "And I think that plays on their side of the field rather than being on our heels on our own."
