Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was unsure how to react on Monday after learning that former President Donald Trump had been named in a tranche of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.
"I was given, during breaks, big national news that Trump's been implicated," Jones said. "Okay. And I can't speak to this until I've had time to research it. So, um, I'm going to go off air soon."
The allegations in question came from a woman who recanted her statement years ago, but reappeared in newly unsealed filings linked to attorneys representing Alan Dershowitz, The Messenger reports.
Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung told The Independent in response, “These baseless accusations have been fully retracted because they are simply false and have no merit.”
Jones appeared to know little about the breaking story or their origin.
"I'll tell you what I think," he promised. "I don't know. I don't know what's going on."
Jones noted Trump's well-documented relationship with Epstein, who was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell before he could stand trial on criminal sex trafficking charges.
"[Trump] did hang around with [Epstein] some and was around him some," Jones said. "And so I'm not going to, I'm not going to sit there ever, ever and, uh, condone any of that, but we're going to find out."
